Mother, son arrested over credit cards

A Marion County mother and son are in jail on Oklahoma charges involving burglary and illegal use of credit cards.

Marla Kay Shiplet, 54, Marion, was arrested June 24 by Marion police on a warrant from Rogers County, Oklahoma.

She is charged with burglary, taking or receiving stolen credit or debit cards, knowingly concealing stolen property, and twice using a forged or revoked credit card.

Her son, Dustin Lee Shiplet, 33, Marion, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies June 17 on another warrant from Rogers County, Oklahoma, itemizing the same charges.

According to the warrant, two credit cards were stolen July 29, 2015, during an auto burglary at a Claremore recreation center.

Within 20 minutes, the cards were being used at two separate retailers.

The warrant alleges that the Shiplets were in possession of the cards, and were identified through surveillance footage as having made purchases totaling $587.07.

The warrant did not indicate why they were in Oklahoma, nor when they returned to Kansas.
