Memorial weekend activities set

Several area cemeteries are planning Memorial Day observances this year. Neither Lost Springs nor Marion will have a Memorial Day service this year.

Burdick

The American Legion post is no longer active, so churches are filling the gap. At 10:30 a.m., the flag will be raised at Burdick United Methodist Church, and there will be a reading of the names of area deceased veterans.

Burdick Swedish Lutheran Church will conduct a service at 11 a.m. in the church cemetery.

Burns

Route 77 Classic Car Show will be Saturday. Registration will be 8 to 11 a.m. Trophies will be handed out at 2 p.m. Vendors will be available at Burns Community Center, and there will be a kiddie tractor pull for ages 4 to 12.

Florence

John McCay American Legion post will be host for three Memorial Day events. Military honors will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 10 a.m. at Cedar Point, and 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the legion hall.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro will have a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. in the city park. It will include full military honors with a color guard and firing squad.

Names of deceased veterans of the Hillsboro American Legion post will be read. Guest speaker will be Grace Greene, district representative of Rep. Jake LaTurner.

A steak dinner at the Legion hall will follow the ceremony. Tickets are available in advance for $18 at the Legion hall and Hillsboro Hardware.

Lincolnville

Lincolnville American Legion members will furnish a color guard for Pilsen at 9:30 a.m. and Lincolnville at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Alan Stahlecker will speak at Lincolnville.

Peabody

Peabody Memorial Day services will be at 10 a.m.

The Peabody-Burns sophomore class will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The menu will include smoked pork, green beans, corn, cheesy potatoes, rolls, gelatin, and desserts. Tickets can be purchased at the door, $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 5 to 11.

A fried chicken dinner will be served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Vintage Bank Park. It will include potato salad, baked beans, rolls, dessert, and bottled water. Donations will help to pay for maintaining the museum complex. The Printing Museum will have demonstrations, and all buildings will be open.

On Sunday, the 11th annual Sandgreen Masters Golf Tournament will raise money for the Peabody American Legion building fund. Registration will be at 11 a.m., with tee off at noon. More information is available from Myrna Wood, (316) 772-2669.

Pilsen

A Memorial Day service and dedication of a Gold Star Families memorial will be 9 a.m. Memorial Day at Pilsen Cemetery.

Military honors will be provided by Gilbert-Poppe American Legion in Lincolnville. Taps will be performed by Adam Makovec.

In case of inclement weather, services will be held at Pilsen Community Center.

Ramona

Memorial Day services for Lewis Cemetery in Ramona will begin at 10:30 a.m..Jonathan Clausing will speak.

A fried chicken meal will be held at the parish hall of the Lutheran church. Guests are asked to provide salad and or dessert. Donations will be accepted.
