There will be no shortage of remembrance services honoring county veterans Monday, as multiple groups have planned Memorial Day services.

Peabody

Memorial Day services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Prairie Lawn Cemetery with Jim Pohlman, pastor of Peabody Christian Church, conducting ceremonies and benediction.

Peabody Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will participate in services, and members of Peabody-Burns High School band will perform patriotic music.

Afterward will be dedication of the new Veterans Memorial. Peabody-Burns sophomore class will serve a meal at Brown Gymnasium.

“I’m a simple man but I believe it is important for us to honor our lost friends and family,” Soyez said.

The honor guard will present military honors in memory of departed comrades, and a trumpet trio will play “Taps” following the third volley of the honor guard.

Marion Kiwanis Club will serve coffee and refreshments in the Marion Elementary School multipurpose room after the service.

Volunteers are being asked asked to meet at 5 p.m. Friday at the cemetery to put out gravesite flags, then again at 7 p.m. Sunday to erect the Avenue of Flags, and again at 4 p.m. Memorial Day to remove flags.

Hillsboro

Memorial Day services will commence at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park during which Mayor Delores Dalke will speak and Rod Koons will sing.

“We’re going to have the honor guard salute and “Taps,” and depending on the weather it would be nice if the townspeople came out,” American Legion post commander Josh Plenert said. “It’s usually lightly attended. The day is more than just a day off, and it means so much to a lot of people.”

A steak dinner will be served at Hillsboro American Legion Post No. 366 after the services. Advance tickets are $15.

Pilsen

Starting at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Pilsen Cemetery, military honors by Gilbert-Poppe Post of the American Legion in Lincolnville will include a welcome, address, and a reading of veterans’ honor roll by William E. Benda.

After the Pledge of Allegiance and wreath placement by Deanna Klenda, “God Bless America” will be sung by assembly, and a rifle salute by Gilbert-Poppe Post will follow.

Mary Griffith will sing “Taps” with trumpet accompaniment by Adam Makovec.

Services will be in Pilsen Community Center in case of inclement weather.

Florence, Cedar Point

Services by John McKay American Legion Post will commence with an invocation and address by Father Darrin May of Holy Family Parish at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
