Marion runner strides to state meet

Despite being short of a full team for 2018, Marion capped a successful season Saturday at regionals at John Redmond Lake.

Heidi Grimmett provided the highlight performance, placing third and running a personal best of 20:53.7.

The finish earned her a medal and a trip to the state meet next week. It marked the fifth race where she placed in the top-3. Her time was 18.5 seconds below her previous best, and it dropped her average 5K to 22:03.8.

Bethany Grimmett placed 46th, for another top-50 finish. Her time of 30:55.9 was her third-best 5K. It brought her average time down to 32:52.1, 2:38.1 faster than her first race of the year.

Colton Boudreaux came in 33rd, with a time of 20:48.7. Of the team’s eight races, he finished six in less than 21 minutes, with an average time of 20:57.6.

Braxton Schuh finished in 23:45.8, which placed him 53rd. After running his first-ever 5K in 25:46 to begin the seaason, he finished five of the next seven under 24 minutes. Saturday’s race lowers his average time to 23:59.6.
