Marion runner nets 10th place
Marion runner Heidi Grimmett made her second consecutive appearance at the state cross-country race, and she delivered Saturday at Wamego with a 10th-place finish.
The hilly course gave her fits in last year’s race, but the sophomore maintained her strong form with a 20:44.4 finish at Wamego.
Grimmett held her position within the top-12 for the whole race, despite issues midway through.
She stumbled around the two-mile mark, but recovered to hold her position among the leaders.
She finished in the top-10 in each of her nine races this season, and Saturday was Grimmett’s seventh race under 21 minutes.
She will be the lone returnee for next year’s girls team, while the boys return all five runners.
