Six of eight on team earn personal bests
Marion cross-country reached the midseason mark last week at Halstead, and the team showed its peak performance with a top-10 finish and six personal bests from team members.
Sophomore Heidi Grimmett registered her fastest time with a 20:50.1, earning a seventh-place medal.
The two senior girls also continued cutting time. Alfwenna Meyer’s time of 27:17.3 knocked 15 seconds off her time at Marion’s home meet, while veteran Bethany Grimmett chopped nearly a minute, with a time of 26:03.1.
Marion boys placed 13th as a team, but their average finish of 20:51.06 was 12th-fastest among 15 qualifying teams.
Tristen Dye continued his hot streak as Marion’s top runner with another sub 20-minute time of 19:45.1.
The remaining four Marion runners nearly all finished within two minutes of Dye. Colton Boudreaux was closest with a personal best of 20:12.9, while Christopher Berry followed at 20:52.9.
