Marion FFA attends leadership conference

Marion/Florence FFA officers placed third overall at the South Central District FFA Leadership Conference held Monday at Arkansas City High School. The conference consisted of three competitions, parliamentary procedure, leadership information, and ritual.

Marion placed second in parliamentary procedure, fourth in the FFA information contest, and 6th in the ritual contest. These rankings combined to give the chapter third place out of 38 teams.

Students competing in the parliamentary procedure contest were required to take a test over parliamentary procedure, then perform a 10-minute demonstration of 10 different parliamentary motions. This demonstration had to reflect a meeting in progress. Participants found out which motions they had to demonstrate and their topic exactly one minute before beginning the demonstration.

The leadership information contest consisted of 100 questions over the agricultural industry, the FFA organization, officers, history, official functions, and current programs and awards.

Students in the ritual contest were required to perform the opening ceremony used at FFA meetings and official functions.

By placing second in the parliamentary procedure leadership development event, the Marion/Florence chapter qualified for state competition, which will be in May at the state FFA convention.

Students competing for Marion included Carley Stapleford, Antone Vinduska, Austin Neufeld, Devin Soyez, Shelby Cairns, and Cassie Meyer.
