Marion boys win for 4th year running

Four of five county teams competed Thursday at Marion’s annual cross- country meet in a pasture east of the football field dubbed the “Big M” course.

Marion

The Warrior varsity boys won for the fourth year in a row. Luke Wessel finished first with a time of 16:46. Teammate Eli Klenda finished sixth with a time of 17:28.

Harrison Beery finished 15th; Zayden Janzen, 18th; Owen White, 19th; Keenan Lange, 30th; and Josh Smith, 33rd.

On the girls’ side, Brooklyn Beery placed fifth place with a time of 22:09, and Izy Branson finished 12th.

“We had a great week of practice and challenged them this week and it showed up today in how they ran,” coach Jason Hett said. “[I’m] proud of this group, and they know the work is not done yet.”

The Warriors will be at Wedgewood Golf Course for their next meet Thursday.

Hillsboro

The Trojans were led by Quinlyn Funk, who won in the girls’ division with a time of 20:47. Her teammate Riley Richert took third with a time of 20:52. Jaidyn Frantz placed tenth with a time of 23:46.

The Trojans will travel to Berean Academy for their next meet of the season.

Goessel

All four Goessel cross-country runners set season bests at the Marion meet.

Eli Gaeddert finished the 3.1 mile race in fourth with a time of 17:04. Levi Olson came in 13th with a time of 18:44, and Aidan Impson finished 20th with a time of 19:45.

Goessel will race Thursday at Harvey County East Lake.

Centre

Kaitlynn Bina led the Cougars Thursday with a ninth place finish and a time of 23:06.

On the boys’ side, Kole Kroupa placed 25th with a time of 20:32.

The Centre team will travel Thursday to Halstead for its next meet.
