Large team reports to Goessel track

Staff writer

Forty-two students reported for track at Goessel High School the first week of practice.

“With the success we had in Cross Country this fall, we look to several distance runners to compete well,” said head Coach Curtis Guhr.

In addition to the distance events, the track team hopes to improve on sprinting and will score points with multiple relays.

Since there was no competition in 2020, the experience will come from those athletes who competed in 2019.

Goessel did not have any representatives at the state track meet two years ago, “but we’re looking for both guy’s and girl’s athletes to step up to that level this year,” said Guhr.

Five girls on this year’s team lettered in 2019 and seven guys earned a varsity letter in 2019. These will be leaders for the large squad, encouraging each one to improve their performances as the season progresses.

There are three high school track meets that will be held at Goessel.

The first meet of the season is hosted by Canton-Galva but will take place at the Goessel track on April 2.

The Bluebirds look forward to hosting the Wheat State League meet on May 9.
