Kenneth Sly

Kenneth Dale Sly, 86, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017.

Kenneth, son of the late Vena Alice (Cheek) and H. W. “Bus” Sly, was born June 30, 1931 in Council Grove, Kansas.

On Aug. 13, 1955, Kenneth married the love of his life, Anita Kay Collett, in Marion, Kansas. He always said he never could have done the things he did without her. 

He proudly served in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne for three years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years.

Kenneth enjoyed spending time with family and attending his kids’ and grandkids’ events, his Airborne family, and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife Anita of the home; daughters, Hollyce Morris and husband Dan, of Topeka, Colleen Sly of Salina, and Ernestine Sly and fiancée, John Stahl, of Plainville; sons, K. D. Sly and wife, Vicki, of Amarillo, Texas, and Justin Sly and wife, Susan, of Belleville. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ethan Pywell, and sister, Norma Crainer.

At the family’s request, there will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, Kansas, with the Rev. Tara Thompson officiating. Graveside services will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Marion Cemetery, Marion, Kansas, with the Rev. Greg Rea officiating.
