John Steven “Steve” Everett, 68, died Feb. 2 at St. Francis Hospital.

A funeral service was yesterday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka, and burial followed in Topeka Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 21, 1947, to John and Mattie Everett in Marion.

He joined the Army after graduating from Matfield Green Rural High School in 1966, and was a construction engineer during the Vietnam War.

He married Regenia Ann Kincaid on Oct. 21, 1978, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death.

He worked as a security guard at the Topeka VA Medical Center and Kansas Neurological Institute.

He was a member of Kansas Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 604, and also was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Post 400.

He is survived by three children: Carolyn Schmidt and Julia Stout, both of Topeka, and Patrick Grimes of Galena; and six grandchildren.
