James South

James K. South, 78, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Via Christi — St. Francis in Wichita.

He was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Geronimo, Oklahoma, the son of Roy and Annie South. He graduated Peabody High School in 1956. James is a veteran of the Army serving in Korea and Washington, District of Columbia.

He married his high school sweetheart, Carmen Fisher, in 1959. They raised their family in Arkansas City, Kansas, where he worked in sales and management. They later retired in Peabody. James was an avid hunter, fisherman, pool player, and lover of college football and basketball.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen; children Claudette (South) Glenn of Wichita, Dr. Steve South of Rogers, Arkansas, and Annette South of Verona Beach, New York; grandchildren Gaston Glenn of Wichita and Jama (Glenn) and Junior Mustain of Lawrence, Kansas; and sister, Dorothy (South) Rucker of Wichita, Kansas.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Peabody United Methodist Church.

A memorial has been established through Baker Funeral Home to support James’ passions with Senior Citizens’ Mid-Kansas Pool League and Peabody Historical Society.
