Hotel to offer inaugural dining

Staff writer

The Historic Elgin Hotel will treat guests to a gourmet meal Jan. 5 at their inaugural Dine Out at the Elgin event.

The chef for the evening will be Josh Tajchman, owner of Taco’s Food Truck. Despite working with the food truck more recently, Tajchman has prior experience with gourmet food, hotel proprietor Tammy Ensey said.

“I think his interest was in doing something different and continuing the taco truck,” she said. “This gives him an opportunity to cook some of the things he’s done in the past.”

At $50 per person, the tab is more expensive than other dinner options around the county, but Ensey is confident the three-course meal will give hotel goers and Marion residents an experience that is more upscale than the norm.

“A chocolate torte with tuaca Italian liqueur and espresso, where else do Marionites get that,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to taste some things people haven’t had before and expand their palates.”

In addition to the food, there will be a full bar available, or guests can bring their own bottle of wine for an extra charge.

The locally-based Barbara Baxter Jazz Trio will provide the evening’s entertainment.

If the event goes well, Ensey plans to make the dinner a monthly fixture at the hotel.
