Historical society seeks intern

Staff writer

Museum directors in the county are banding together to re-activate Marion County Historical Society as an organization that reaches out to promote all of the historical sites in the county.

At another reorganizational meeting Monday, the group agreed to attempt to secure an intern to help them reach their goal.

Tammy Ensey of Marion is spearheading the effort. She has contacts at Emporia State University. Anita Boese, representing Hillsboro museums, will reach out to Tabor College. High schools also will be contacted.

Museum directors are accumulating a list of projects an intern could do to help them improve outreach as individual museums and as a group through various means.

Serving on the board of directors are: Marion, Peggy Blackman; Hillsboro, Anita Boese; Peabody, Patty Traxson; Florence, Robert Harris; Goessel, Fern Bartel; and Pilsen, Melissa Stuchlik. Steve Schmidt will serve as representative of the Cottonwood Crossing Santa Fe Association chapter. At-large members are Mary Olson of Peabody and Duane Bair of Lincolnville.

Blackman was elected president; Bair, vice president; Traxson, secretary; and Olson, treasurer.

Bair volunteered to produce a draft of a rewritten constitution that will meet the needs of the reorganized body.

The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. May 8 in the Marion City Library Santa Fe Meeting Room, if available.
