Hillsboro classes prepare for weekend reunions

Staff writer

Several Hillsboro High School graduating classes plan to attend Saturday’s all-school reunion, coinciding with homecoming.

The weekend reunion will be a family reunion of sorts for Irene Seibel and her six children.

Irene, who graduated in 1942, will celebrate her 80th year as a graduate. Her class is unlikely to have a separate reunion. The oldest member expected to attend, she will turn 100 in December.

Her children — Clint (class of 1962), Ralph (class of 1964), Clyde (class of 1969), Lavella Kilpatrick (class of 1972), John (class of 1977), and Gracie Gulker (class of 1979) — also will attend the reunion.

Clint, Lavella, and John’s classes are honored at this year’s reunion.

So far, classes of 1952, 1957, 1962, 1972, 1977, 1982, and 1987 have announced plans to attend.

Clint Seibel said family members had spread across the country, and for some, Saturday would mean a brief time at Hillsboro. They will fly in and back out on Saturday.

Some classes will have their own reunions the same weekend, according to Daryl Penner, a 1971 graduate and member of the reunion planning committee.

Individual reunions usually are before the all-school reunion, a catered dinner at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church

Evelyn Regier, class of 1952, said her class was keeping open the option to have a meal together, but no class-only meal is planned at this time.

The class of 1977 will have a pizza and ice cream lunch Saturday at Hillsboro’s Scout House, class member Barb Buller said.

Mark Siebel, class of 1982, said his class would have an individual reunion lunch Saturday at Lehigh.
