Good comes from many

To the editor:

Marion County is not Utopia. However, amazing good is being accomplished by people willing to cooperate across the imaginary lines of separation.

The U.S. post office, Marion County commissioners, and the city of Marion all contribute.

Democrats and Republicans donate. High school athletes harness their cross-country rivals to provide for it.

Students and student organizations from all around pitch in. Hometown and homegrown alumni join the effort.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H’ers donate time and effort. Churches act as collection sites.

Individuals and civic organizations give generously. Volunteers from elementary age to retired citizens join the effort.

And good is done.

The Marion County Resource Center food bank and community garden, in conjunction with the efforts of dozens of unsung groups, organizations and individuals, saw and responded to the needs of our neighbors.

No fanfare, no trumpets, no individual or group seeking the credit or the glory. Just good.

It is said, ‘There is no limit to the amount of good that can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.’

What else could we accomplish in Marion County if we chose to ignore the imaginary lines that separate us and commit to working together for the good of our time and our future?
