Florence to get sports bar and grill

Staff writer

Florence will soon have a place for sports enthusiasts to hang out to watch games and enjoy food and drink.

Florence residents John Branson and Chris Janzen on Monday paid the county $150 for the building at 315 Main St., which the county owned because of delinquent taxes.

Branson, a minister at Christian Church of Florence who moved back to his hometown two years ago, said the plan is to open a sports-themed bar and grill serving sandwiches, pizza and beer. He and Janzen hope to have the business up and running by the first of the year.

The building was formerly a bar, and before that housed a flower shop, Branson said.

Branson said he and Janzen want the business to be a place people can go to enjoy sports on big-screen TVs and have some things to eat.

“We’re going to try to have some type of 3.2 beer there,” Branson said.

Not determined yet is what times and days the business will be open, he said.

“We’re in the early stages,” Branson said. “The main thing is, we want to do something for the community and get another building open here in order to do something for the town.”

Janzen, who lived at Florence from eighth grade through high school, works full-time at Excel.

“John was the first person I brought my idea to,” Janzen said.
