Flint Hills Market and Bakery closes

Staff writer

About seven months after opening for business, Flint Hills Market and Bakery emptied its shelves of its inventory Thursday and closed its doors in downtown Florence.

Business owner Jenny Lee cited “personal reasons” for the closure, and stated the choice was not a “financial decision.”

“Our customers are what I am going to miss the most,” Lee said. “I love this community.”

She stated that she plans to remain in the area.

Building owner Judy Mills said she was saddened by the market’s closure.

Eviction rumors regarding the closure surfaced earlier this week and circulated in the community and online.

“The eviction rumor is not true whatsoever,” Mills said. “It was her choice to close entirely.”

Mills said she and her husband, Randy, have not given up on the idea of using the space for a grocery store. Mills said she was unsure how long it would take until they could reopen it as a grocery store or other business.

An expanded story about the closure will be published in next week’s edition.
