Fire destroys Cedar Point home

Staff writer

Fire destroyed a Cedar Point home early Monday.

Two adults and four children lived in the two-story home, Chase County fire chief Steve Fillmore said. All got out before firefighters arrived.

Two Florence firefighters were called at 4:21 a.m. to help Chase County firefighters with the fire. A Marion firefighter brought air packs about an hour later.

Florence and Marion firefighters remained on the scene until 7:22 a.m.

One resident had minor burns on a leg and was treated by emergency medical service at the scene.

Fillmore declined to give details of the fire and where it appeared to have started.

“I called in the state fire marshal, and it’s under investigation,” he said.

Fillmore routinely calls for a fire marshal to investigate when his department fights a residential fire, he said.

Chase County units stayed at the scene until 11:30 a.m., after the fire marshal finished inspecting.
