Ewert promotes Chingawassa Salsa

Max Ewert sat quietly in the back during Monday’s city council meeting, guarding a mysterious black bag.
Near the end of the meeting, Ewert came to the table to reveal his secret.
Being laid up for a spell gives a man time to think, Ewert said. He’s come up with a business development idea.
“I have come up with a recipe for Chingawassa Salsa,” Ewert said as he pulled out a jar of freshly made salsa and several bowls and scooped salsa out for council members. He also passed out corn chips for them to sample the salsa.
Nearly all the salsa ingredients can be grown locally; what’s needed is to develop a breakfast burrito to eat with it, Ewert said.
The person with food is always the most popular, so council members quickly voted to adjourn the meeting to enjoy the salsa.
Prior to adjournment, a new littering ordinance was approved, intended to prevent trash, garbage, and waste from piling up in streets, gutters, alleys, parks, and other public places. If a property owner doesn’t clean up litter along their property, the city can have the litter removed and charge the cost to the property owner.
Council members reviewed a proposed fireworks ordinance and sent it back to city attorney Susan Robson for amendments.
In other business, council members:
- Accepted a $202,469 bid from Bettis Asphalt for repaving a portion of Main St., and
- Approved payment on services from EBH Engineering for work on repaving and East Park projects.
