Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 26

1:56 a.m. — An elderly woman having trouble breathing in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

1:57 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was sent to Hillsboro Community Hospital to help intubate a patient. The ambulance returned to its quarters at 3:15 a.m.

3:20 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

5:59 a.m. — Even before the ambulance returned to Marion, St. Luke called with another transfer. The ambulance arrived there at 6:32 a.m. and transferred a patient to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to its station at 8:24 a.m.

JULY 27

9:50 a.m. — A dizzy, nauseated 77-year-old woman at Oakwood Apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:43 a.m. — An automated alarm indicating a traffic accident at 120th and Goldenrod Rd. was found to be a false alarm three minutes later. Goessel firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance responded to the initial call.

1:34 p.m. — A 93-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance on a non-emergency basis from St. Luke to NMC Health for an orthopedic consultation. The ambulance was back at its station at 3:26 p.m.

4:59 p.m. — A tractor fire in the middle of a road near 370th and Pawnee Rds. was battled by firefighters from Ramona, Lost Springs, Tampa, and Hope until 7:10 p.m.

THURSDAY

12:16 a.m. — A man involved in a domestic disturbance near 30th and Vista Rds. was checked by medics from Peabody ambulance and first responders from Burns but declined to be taken to a hospital. A female suspect arrested after the disturbance was taken to St. Luke by a sheriff’s deputy before being booked into county jail. A Marion police officer was asked to stand by at the hospital in case of trouble.

12:29 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman with knee and thigh pain and unable to get up at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by the county’s backup ambulance, based in Hillsboro.

1:34 p.m. — A burn-pile fire that grew out of control, threatening a shed near 80th and Alamo Rds., was brought back under control by Goessel firefighters, who remained on the scene for nearly two hours.

6:53 p.m. — A man having a seizure in the 200 block of W. Main St. in Burns was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders provided initial evaluation. Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched as well, but medics requested that the call be changed to Peabody ambulance, which arrived four minutes after Marion ambulance. Marion ambulance returned to its quarters at 9:05 p.m.

FRIDAY

2:21 p.m. — A man who fell out of his wheelchair at Birchwood Apartments in Hillsboro and was having trouble breathing declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:51 p.m. — A 38-year-old man with gastrointestinal problems was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC. The ambulance returned to its station at 5:56 p.m.

7:59 p.m. — A 23-year-old woman with chest pains after recent gall bladder surgery was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro. Ambulance attendants had to ask a dispatcher for the address, which she had neglected to provide in her page. Marion ambulance also was dispatched but later told to disregard the call.

SATURDAY

12:30 a.m. — A man, bleeding after a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of Main St. in Tampa, was checked by Tampa ambulance attendants after sheriff’s deputies secured the premises. He was not taken to a hospital.

10:58 a.m. — A 27-year-old male diabetic who suffered multiple seizures in the 500 block of Wilson St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance also responded to the call.

4 p.m. — An HCH patient, in stable condition but with pancreatitis and abdominal pain, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to McPherson Center for Health to see a surgeon. The ambulance returned to its quarters at 5:32 p.m.

6:17 p.m. — A pontoon boat carrying five passengers who became stranded off French Creek Cove at Marion Reservoir when the boat’s motor died was brought to shore by Hillsboro firefighters, who remained on the scene until 8:42 p.m.

10:31 p.m. — A controlled burn that grew out of control near 360th and Upland Rds. was extinguished by Lost Springs firefighters, who remained there until 1:01 a.m.

SUNDAY

1:01 a.m. — A confused elderly woman found lying in grass outside a residence in the 200 block of S. Ash St. in Hllsboro was escorted to her nearby home by a Hillsboro police officer. Hillsboro ambulance, which also was dispatched, was told to disregard the call.

5:56 p.m. — A duplex in the 400 block of W. B St. in Hillsboro was checked by Hillsboro firefighters after a carbon monoxide alarm beeped earlier in the day and odors were detected. Hillsboro firefighters spent 15 minutes checking but found no problems. Hillsboro ambulance, also dispatched, was not needed.

8:34 p.m. — A 59-year-old man possibly suffering a second heart attack was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC from the 700 block of Prairie Lawn Rd. in Peabody, Peabody ambulance also was dispatched.

10:39 p.m. — A beeping carbon monoxide alarm at a farm home near 20th and Quail Creek Rds. was checked by Peabody firefighters, who remained on the scene until 12:24 a.m.

MONDAY

9:42 a.m. — A 67-year-old man who awoke naked and sunburned under a tractor near Yarrow Rd. and the Marion/Butler County line was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance after being diverted there by Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital in Wichita. First responders from Burns also were dispatched.

11:17 a.m. — Malfunction of a fire alarm briefly sent Peabody firefighters to Westview Manor.

2:04 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance initially was called for a 60-year-old man suffering from heat exposure at a farm near 120th and Indigo Rds., but the caller and the victim called back two minutes later and said no ambulance was needed.

7:47 p.m. — What was reported as a smoldering row of trees near 175th and Jade Rds. was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a controlled burning of household trash in a fire pit.
