Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 25

1:36 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with knee pain was taken from the 100 block of N. Lincoln St., Marion, to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:05 p.m. — A woman whom police suspected of being under the influence of drugs after reportedly yelling at people the previous night in the 400 block of N. Freeborn St., Marion, was checked by Marion ambulance but not taken to a hospital. Hillsboro ambulance initially was called before Marion ambulance completed its previous run. The county’s emergency medical services director also responded.

2:43 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance relocated to Marion until Marion ambulance returned to the county.

2:53 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley Children’s Hospital, Wichita, by Peabody ambulance.

5:07 p.m. — A fire in a brome field north of 240th and Remington Rds. was extinguished within half an hour by Marion firefighters.

5:55 p.m. — A small ditch fire on US-77 south of 190th Rd. was reported to be extinguished before Marion firefighters arrived.

JUNE 26

1:28 a.m. — A 20-year-old woman who reportedly was beaten and robbed of her phone by her boyfriend two hours earlier went to the home of a deputy sheriff in the 300 block of E. Main St. in Lehigh and was taken from there to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Two other deputies responded to the call.

6:05 a.m. — A Salem Home patient with low oxygen levels was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:48 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:26 a.m. — Marion firefighters responded to a false alarm at St. Luke.

3:54 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman who fell in the 300 block of N. 1st St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. The ambulance was summoned by someone who went to St. Luke to report the fall. Hillsboro ambulance briefly was called because of an equipment problem on Marion ambulance. The EMS director also responded to the call.

6:24 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

11:21 p.m. — A 2-year-old St. Luke patient with altered mental status was transferred to Wesley Children’s Hospital by Marion ambulance.

THURSDAY

8:59 a.m. — A 50-year-old man bitten in the face, throat, legs, and arms by a dog that refused to release its grip was taken by Peabody ambulance from the 800 block of Olive St. in Peabody to a transfer point set up near the high school and then transported by helicopter, more than an hour after the initial call, to Wesley.

The dog was held down by an unidentified civilian until a police officer fired two shots, killing the animal. Marion ambulance and the county EMS director also responded to the call..

Although not initially called, Peabody firefighters radioed dispatchers and set up a landing zone for the helicopter.

2:40 p.m. — A 15-year-old boy, unconscious with head and arm injuries and suffering a seizure after falling off an all-terrain vehicle while not wearing a helmet, was taken by Peabody ambulance from near 7th and Vine Sts. to a transfer point at the high school and then transferred to a helicopter for a trip to Wesley. Marion ambulance and the county EMS director also responded.

Also at 2:40 p.m. — A grass fire near US-56 and Goldenrod Rd. was extinguished within 20 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

4:15 p.m. — Florence firefighters washed down leaking gasoline after a multi-vehicle accident on US-77 near 140th Rd. Four people involved all declined to be taken to hospitals by Marion ambulance.

10:27 p.m. — Marion ambulance was called as a precaution during a domestic disturbance involving several vehicles occupied by adults and children near 120th Rd. and Sunflower Rd. One potential patient was checked, but the person declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:09 p.m. — A woman experiencing back pain after surgery was taken by Marion ambulance to Newton Medical Center from a home near 210th and Eagle Rds. Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched, but it became stuck in mud and was out of service for 4½ hours. Marion ambulance arrived 43 minutes after the initial call.

FRIDAY

7:51 a.m. — A patient from Goessel was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. Technical difficulties prevented the recording of details of the call.

8:09 a.m. — Trees smoldering at Hillsboro’s yard waste dump were checked by Hillsboro firefighters.

11:45 a.m. — A 20-year-old woman, apparently suffering a seizure at an apartment in the 100 block of N. Birch St. in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:55 p.m. — A 53-year-old woman complaining of heartburn and chest pains at a residence near 90th and Falcon Rds. was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance with one attendant from Hillsboro ambulance, which also responded, as did the county EMS director.

4:06 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to McPherson Hospital by Marion ambulance.

SATURDAY

4:16 a.m. — A 94-year-old woman who fell at Bethesda Homes in Goessel was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:34 a.m. — A 92-year-old woman who may have suffered a stroke in the 300 block of Meadow Lane in Goessel was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders also answered the call. Marion ambulance relocated to Hillsboro to stand by in case additional help was needed.

12:52 p.m. — A man bleeding from his leg after a dog bite near 40th and Nighthawk Rds. was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance. A sheriff’s deputy also was dispatched to investigate.

1:57 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman who fell at a class reunion at Carriage Manor apartments in Florence was helped up by EMTs from Florence ambulance. She reported she was not injured and declined to be taken to a hospital. Marion ambulance was told to disregard the call after two EMTs from Florence responded.

3:04 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:07 p.m. — An 87-year-old man with a rapid pulse and a cough who was unable to get out of his chair in the 700 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:59 p.m. — A 13-year-old girl having trouble breathing and a 32-year-old woman with back pain after their vehicle hit a deer on US-50 near Limestone Rd., a quarter of a mile into Harvey County, were checked by EMTs from both Hillsboro and Peabody ambulances but declined to be taken to a hospital. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched but told to disregard the call after Hillsboro ambulance reported that it was available..

9:38 p.m. — An unconscious 61-year-old woman who may have had a stroke at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance, which responded along with Peabody ambulance.
