Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JAN. 16
7:46 p.m. — A female who reportedly overdosed on sleeping pills on 190th Rd. between Old Mill and Pawnee Rds. was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital. After arriving at the hospital, ambulance personnel reported the ambulance would remain on standby for a possible transfer.
9:17 p.m. — Still at St. Luke, Marion ambulance personnel radioed dispatchers to contact Marion police for traffic control for a possible helicopter transfer. At 10:23 p.m., a Lifeteam helicopter departed St. Luke for Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. No patient information was recorded by the newspaper’s system.
Jan. 17
8:30 a.m. — A fire in a ditch on 210th Rd. between Remington and Quail Creek Rds. was extinguished by Marion firefighters.
9:21 a.m. — A man who was passing in and out of consciousness on Kanza Rd. between 200th and 210th Rds. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital.
12:16 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide alarm in the 900 block of E. D St. Firefighters requested Atmos Energy send a technician to assess air quality.
12:56 p.m. — While in Marion for radio upgrades, Hillsboro ambulance responded to the 1500 block of E. Main St. for a report of a resident who was believed to have fallen and had not responded to efforts to contact them. At 1:02 p.m., ambulance personnel reported the individual was dead and requested a coroner.
thursday
8:04 a.m. — A fire was reported in a first floor apartment at Indian Guide Terr. In Peabody, with residents still in the building. Peabody, Hillsboro, and Florence firefighters and Peabody ambulance responded. An additional ambulance and firefighters from Marion were dispatched. An individual whose condition was described as “code red,” indicating serious and possibly life-threatening condition, was taken by Peabody ambulance to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
10:08 a.m. — Dispatchers radioed Hillsboro ambulance twice, but no response was recorded. At 10:11 a.m., a Goessel firefighter asked if any responders were on their way for an elderly man who fell and was bleeding in Goessel. When a dispatcher responded that Hillsboro ambulance and Goessel first responders had been paged several times, the firefighter responded, “Do you want to try calling Newton or Hesston to get an ambulance coming over here?” When the dispatcher said first responders had been paged, the firefighter said he hadn’t heard any page. A few minutes later, dispatchers confirmed Hillsboro ambulance was en route. The man was examined but not taken to a hospital.
10:38 a.m. — A woman in her 80s with a possible hip fracture on Pawnee Rd. between 110th and 120th Rds. was taken by Peabody ambulance to Newton Medical Center.
2:53 p.m. — A grass fire at 290th and Diamond Rds. was extinguished by Durham firefighters.
3:51 p.m. — A man who was going in and out of consciousness in the 400 block of S. 4th St. was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke.
5:02 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters responded to Tabor College for fire alarms going off at Cedar Hall. No fire was discovered.
6:04 p.m. — A man in a westbound white Chevrolet on K-150 having a possible heart attack was picked up by Marion ambulance at K-150 and Yarrow Rd. and taken to St. Luke. Marion ambulance reported at 8:04 p.m. that it was en route to Kansas Heart Hospital.
7:41 p.m. — Goessel firefighters radioed dispatchers to report an alarm going off at Bethesda Homes, indicating no page had been sent out. A dispatcher responded that pages were attempted but that there was too much radio traffic. Water was reported spraying, but it was determined it was a leaking water line and not fire suppression sprinklers.

2:42 a.m. — An elderly male who was possibly low on oxygen in the 100 block of S. Date St. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH. Hillsboro firefighters assisted.
7:04 a.m. — Marion ambulance reported it was en route to St. Luke. The newspaper’s system did not record an initial dispatch with patient or location information.
7:58 a.m. — A stroke patient at St. Luke was taken by Marion ambulance to Via Christi – St. Francis.
8:05 a.m. — A woman in her 40s who fell and lacerated a leg in the 400 block of S. Ash St. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.
8:24 a.m. — A woman called St. Luke Clinic to report a man in Lost Springs had taken seven nitroglycerin pills, and the clinic called dispatchers after the woman’s call disconnected and contact could not be reestablished. Tampa ambulance and Lincolnville first responders were sent to 202 Jefferson St. in Lost Springs, which after an extended search turned out to be an invalid address. A Lincolnville responder reported he was heading back to Lincolnville at 9:46 a.m. No transmissions were recorded indicating a patient was discovered, nor were any recorded of Tampa ambulance transporting a patient or returning to Tampa.
9:37 a.m. — A woman with high blood pressure and arm pain in the 1500 block of E. Main St. in Marion was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Luke.
5:35 p.m. — A woman in her 60s who was vomiting in the 100 block of S. Birch St. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH. Hillsboro firefighters assisted.

1:36 a.m. — A woman at Bethesda Homes was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Medical Center.
sunday
12:43 a.m. — A man with breathing difficulties in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke.
12:44 a.m. — A field fire at 190th and Goldenrod Rds. was extinguished by Hillsboro firefighters.
3:36 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley Children’s Hospital in Wichita.
4:38 p.m. — A man in his 40s with high blood sugar in the 400 block of N. Ash St. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH.
6:25 p.m. — A man in his 70s complaining of dizziness at Dollar General in Hillsboro was examined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. The man was not taken to a hospital.

8:48 a.m. — A patient at HCH was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
