DEC. 27

9: 34 p.m. — A patient with a broken hip was transferred by Florence ambulance from St. Luke Hospital to Newton Medical Center.

10:36 p.m. — A 47-year-old man with liver disease collapsed and was incoherent in the 600 block of N. Walnut St. With only one EMT available in Marion, she and two EMTs with Hillsboro ambulance were dispatched. The Marion EMT arrived within seven minutes and notified the Hillsboro EMTs, who arrived 13 minutes after that, that the patient might have suffered a stroke. Marion firefighters helped lift, and Hillsboro ambulance took the patient to St. Luke, arriving 52 minutes after the original call.

DEC. 28

1:27 p.m. — Hillsboro and Marion firefighters spent nearly nine hours battling what initially was reported to be a grass fire but turned out to be a hay barn on fire near 150th and Kanza Rds. Peabody firefighters also were dispatched but told to disregard 21 minutes later. Hillsboro ambulance stood by as a precaution and was relieved by a single EMT with Marion ambulance after 5½ hours.

THURSDAY

Technical difficulties prevented recording of dispatches before 6 a.m.

11:31 a.m. — What appears to have been a single Lincolnville firefighter had a grass fire at US-77 and 260th Rd. largely contained before two other firefighters left the station 23 minutes after the initial call.

1:08 p.m. — With no ambulance apparently available in Hillsboro, Marion ambulance transferred a patient from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Salina Regional Health Center. The ambulance returned 3½ hours later.

1:39 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched for what ended up being a false alarm at Peabody Health and Rehab.

2:06 p.m. — A medical alert service called dispatchers about a woman who had fallen in the 100 block of Cincinnati St. in Burns. She reportedly was uninjured and needed only help getting back up. A first responder from Burns and Florence ambulance were dispatched, but no Florence EMTs responded. Peabody ambulance was then dispatched, but when the first responder reported that the patient refused transportation, the ambulance call was canceled.

6:52 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance provided an advanced life support transfer from St. Luke to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita. The emergency medical service director reported to St. Luke nearly an hour after the initial call to assist with the transfer. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:45 p.m.

7:32 p.m. — Marion ambulance was ordered to report to Marion County Jail for undisclosed reasons. After 30 minutes, the ambulance reported that it was en route to St. Luke.

FRIDAY

1:42 a.m. — A medical alert call from a 96-year-old diabetic woman sent Florence ambulance to the 100 block of E. 9th St., but the patient refused transport.

9:10 p.m. — Tampa ambulance, aided by a Durham first responder, transported to HCH an 87-year-old woman who had difficulty breathing in the 100 block of 3rd St. in Durham.

SATURDAY

2:36 a.m. — An apparently unattended fire in a wood pile on Narrow Rd., just east of Nighthawk Rd. in Canada, was reported to have crossed a street, burned a neighbor’s lawn, and threatened a shed. However, Marion firefighters found only the woodpile on fire when they arrived. They remained on the scene until 4:14 a.m.

10:58 a.m. — A person pinned in a truck that rolled over on 60th Rd., 1½ miles west of Quail Creek Rd., was extricated by Peabody firefighters and transported by Peabody ambulance to St. Luke.

11:19 a.m. — Florence ambulance was sent to Newton Medical to transfer a patient back to St. Luke.

11:23 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke to transfer a patient to Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

12:17 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters took less than 30 minutes to extinguish a grass fire near 220th and Jade Rds.

SUNDAY

3:51 a.m. — Goessel first responders and Peabody ambulance were called to a residence three miles north of Goessel on K-15 for a 81-year-old diabetic who had been throwing up. She refused transport, and EMTs returned to Peabody at 5:13 a.m.

MONDAY

12:20 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters reset a falsely activated smoke alarm in the 400 block of S. Jefferson St.
