Durward Oblander

Former Marion service station owner Durward Oblander, 86, died Friday in Newton.

A graveside service was Tuesday in Newton.

Born April 29, 1930, to Jacob and Ellen (Morse) Oblander in Marion, he married LaWanda Flaming on Sept. 1, 1956, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel.

Oblander was a Marion High School graduate, owned a Standard service station in Marion, and worked in manufacturing at Guerdon Industries, Bunting Magnetics, and Miraflex. He and his wife also operated an orchard in Newton.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Sheryl Wright of Wichita; and two sisters, Carol Hett of Marion and Darlene Hiebert of St. Augustine, Florida.

A memorial has been established with Asbury Park.
