Marion’s Dollar General store has done well in the three months since the doors opened, according to a company spokeswoman.
The store opened in December and held its grand opening in early January.
“What we have is a soft opening and then a grand opening,” said Crystal Ghassemi, corporate spokeswoman.
On the day of the grand opening, goody bags were given to the first 200 customers.
“Within the last 12 weeks we’ve been very well received by the community and are excited to be part of the Marion business community,” Ghassemi said. “We’re looking forward to being a long-term member of the business community.
A manager for Ace Hardware said that although the newly-opened business across the highway has brought more people into their part of Marion, it’s not had a large effect on sales.
“I would say it’s probably good for both, but I haven’t noticed a dramatic increase in traffic,” Marvin Peterson said.
