Deputies seize
45 grams of meth

Staff writer

A traffic stop in Florence led sheriff’s deputies to arrest two men early Sunday on suspicion of distribution of methamphetamine.

Deputy Presley Mabe stopped a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado at 1:17 a.m. Sunday at 8th and Marion Sts.

Undersheriff Larry Starkey said Mabe stopped the truck because of a tag light violation.

Mabe and deputy Matt Regier talked to the occupants of the truck — identified as Andy Helton of Cottonwood Falls and Eric Armstrong of Louisville, Nebraska. Deputy Aaron Slater’s drug dog, Blue, indicated drugs were present.

Starkey said the sheriff’s office seized 45 grams of meth — enough for 225 doses — as well as paraphernalia and a revolver.

Jailers booked Armstrong, 48, into custody on suspicion of distribution of meth at 6:36 a.m. Sunday and released him at 3:44 p.m. the same day on a $10,000 bond.

They booked Helton, 49, into custody on suspicion of distribution of meth and possession of paraphernalia at 9:48 a.m. and released him at 4:08 p.m. on a $10,000 bond.
