Dean McGillivary

Services for Dean Filmore McGillivary, 99, who died Jan. 23, will be 5 to 7 p.m. March 18 at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.

Born March 18, 1926 near Hayes Center, Nebraska, he was the sixth child of Archibald and Mattie (Potter) McGillivary.

He attended a country school through 8th grade and then began working on the family farm and ranch, initially farming with a mule team.

He married Eva Clarabelle McMinn on Dec 23, 1948. The couple ran a small food store before moving to McCook, Nebraska. He then drove a truck before moving to Hillsboro in 1956 and working as a driver for Associated Milk Producers.

A volunteer firefighter for 28 years, he also worked for Greeley Gas, Hillsboro Industries, Hillsboro Carpet Center, and the City of Hillsboro, retiring in 1994.

The couple had three children, Kathline, Marline, and Larry Dean. His wife died in 2008. Also preceding him in death were siblings Vera Zerbe, David McGillivary, twin brother Donald McGillivary, Edith McGillivary, and Kenneth McGillivary.

Memorials have been established with Ebenfeld Mennonite Church and Parkside Homes.
