Dapper Donuts debut at Centre

Staff writer

Mini-doughnuts are a unique feature this week at Centre High School’s Cougar Classic.

Marion graduate Rebecca Alstatt and her husband, Brett, have a franchise with The Dapper Donut, a company based in Las Vegas.

“It’s my husband’s business,” Rebecca said.

Their shop opened in December in Union Station in Wichita. They have portable equipment that allows them to provide fresh, mini-donuts at other locations. The dough is mixed and donuts are fried on site.

Centre principal Donald Raymer and Brett Alstatt were college friends. They played football together at Kansas State University. When the invitation came, the Alstatts were happy to accept.

“We want to be a part of that kind of thing when we can,” Rebecca said.

The mini-doughnuts are sold by the half-dozen and placed into small plastic tubs.

Rebecca graduated from Marion High School in 2004. Rex and Carolyn Savage are her parents.

The Alstatts have been married five years and have a 3-year-old girl and 5-month-old baby boy.

Brett operates the store, and Rebecca, a math teacher, helps with marketing and ordering.

Brett will be selling mini donuts during the tournament. They come with three topping choices — cinnamon and sugar, powdered sugar, and vanilla and sprinkles.
