Silk Salon opens in Marion

Brent Miles owns and operates two spas in Wichita, and his wife, Robin, has been a hairstylist for 25 years. With 40 combined years of experience in the industry, it made sense for them to invest their talents into one salon.

They became owners of Miles by Design at 1240 Commercial Dr. in Marion on May 7.

Robin Miles is the legal owner, but she and her husband operate the business together.

“I’ve always wanted to own my own salon,” Robin said.

Former owner, Karen Miles, is Brent’s cousin’s wife, so one could say the business remains in the family.

They are open but are planning to dress up the building with fresh paint before an open house sometime in the future.

They have three part-time hairdressers and plan to add a stylist, massage therapist, and barber. The salon carries L‘Anza and Joico hair and skin products.

Besides the boutique, spa, and hair care, they offer nail services, tanning, and waxing.

“We’re excited about bringing some of the amenities of the city to a small town,” Brent said.

Robin wants customers to feel welcome.

“We want people to come in and relax, get a cup of coffee, and get their hair done,” she said.

Regular business hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The couple recently leased a house on College Hill, before they purchased the salon, so they aren’t planning to move to Marion anytime soon. However, they left open the possibility that it may happen someday.
