City waiver for ducks still won’t fly

Jason Ivy, who asked city council members to review city restrictions on ducks, is going to have to wait a bit longer before learning whether he can keep the ducks whose eggs his wife eats.
City attorney Susan Robson said two weeks ago that she would have a proposed amendment or other recommendation for Monday’s council meeting.
But Mayor Todd Heitschmidt said Monday that the situation was more complicated and that Ivy might have to install a 500-foot pen like what other cities require for waterfowl.
Ivy and his wife, Tiffany, said July 17 that she has a “severe allergic reaction” to chicken eggs, and that duck eggs comprise a large part of her diet.
Margaret Wilson lobbied council members to eliminate parking on Cedar St. She said she was concerned for children who may play in between parked vehicles as harvest trucks drive by.
The council also voted to start condemnation proceedings on a house at 714 Sherman St.
Utility supervisor Marty Frederickson told the council about an appeal process for the Federal Emergency Management Agency flood insurance maps.
Council members met for 10 minutes behind closed doors to discuss non-elected personnel matters.
