Church women welcome strangers at event

The meeting of women from Marion and Florence churches on World Community Day, Nov. 3, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church turned into an opportunity to show hospitality.

As the women were sharing thoughts about local community endeavors and other opportunites, two strangers walked in looking for the soup luncheon. They were welcomed, given food, stayed a while, and then left.

“We didn’t know their names but their appearance was symbolic of the community spirit we shared with them,” Janet Bryant said.

The program, “Kindling New Fires for Peace,” consisted of scripture and songs led by Sue Clough with accompaniment by Lydia Gates.

World Community Day is offered by Marion Church Women United.
