An annual chili competition that has been known to pit husbands against wives and brother against brother will be Oct. 7 at Marion County Lake Hall.
This will be the 17th year for the lake’s chili cook-off.
Eager chili cooks can sign up from now until right before the event.
Last year, 15 cooks entered the contest, paying a $15 entry fee.
Top winners were Stacy Schmidt with Explosive Schmidts chili, Taco’s Food Truck, and Janet Robinson and Linda Carlson.
Visitors can buy a chili taste kit for $5, sample the chilies, and vote for a people’s choice award.
The chili cook-off ordinarily attracts 250 to 350 people a year.
Related events take place during the day.
This year, a car show and a cornhole tournament are planned. Friends of the lake typically have a bake sale to raise money for lake projects.
