Playing on the road Friday in non-league games against Chase County, Centre girls were defeated 47-27 and the boys lost 68-46.
The girls were scoreless in the first quarter. A 3-pointer by Shelby Pankratz put the Lady Cougars on the board, but after Pankratz made 5 more points and Whitney Gutsch made a basket, they trailed 23-10 at halftime.
Centre’s scoring still was at a premium in the second half. Pankratz made 7 points, Ally Basore had 5, Emily Schlesener made a layup, and Kate Basore made a free throw. Carissa Shields made the final two points.
The boys had a somewhat better start, trailing 17-12 after one quarter. They got within 1 point in the second quarter. After a last-second shot by Nathaniel Engler, Centre trailed 28-23 at halftime.
The Cougars got within 1 point in the third quarter and tied the game, 28-28, before falling to a 22-point deficit.
Cole Srajer scored 17 points, followed by Dylan Deines with 10.
