Centre girls finish 1-2

Centre volleyball defeated Council Grove in three sets Saturday during the Herington Invitational tournament.

The Cougars were defeated by Sedgwick, 29-31 and 9-25 in the first match, and Canton Galva, 17-25 and 22-25 in the third match.

Samantha and Alyssa Espinoza led the attack against Council Grove. Samantha had 36 and 9 kills, and Alyssa had 39 and 9 kills.

Gracie Luna completed 18 serves, and Alyssa E. had 14.

Carlye Deines led in digs, with 26; Emma David had 19, and Samantha E., 18.

Alyssa E. provided 43 assists, and Samantha E., 32.

Deines was perfect as a serve receiver, with a record of 11-0.

The team’s record as of Monday was 4-12.

“We had a good chance to make it out of pool play Saturday, but we couldn’t finish against Canton-Galva,” coach Karen Nickel said.
