With $1 million in the district’s capital outlay fund, Centre superintendent Susan Beeson and board members discussed facility issues that will need to be addressed in the next five years.

Football field improvements mentioned included light poles, concession stand, bath/weight rooms, bleachers, and press box. They also suggested additional classroom space, gym lighting and air-conditioning, roof, as well as safety and security improvements.

“We are initiating tonight a process to determine our core beliefs and develop a new mission statement,” Beeson said.

The board asked Beeson to take a survey to determine what teachers and staff think is needed. From that survey, the top five will be set as priorities.

IServe Facilities manager Richard Idleman proposed purchasing a commercial washer-dryer set to replace the residential appliances being used.

Principal Donald Raymer backed up his request, noting that new uniforms, some with bright red color, could be protected by having them washed at school. Team managers could put them in bags after games and deliver them to the laundry room.

Idleman said other things like shoulder pads also could be cleaned. He said it would be best if his employees provide the laundry services.

He was instructed to get bids on new machines, as well as electrical and plumbing costs. Anita Svoboda urged him to contact local vendors for possible bids.

Idleman also was instructed to get bids on an additional mower.

The board approved purchase of 25 Chromebooks for the Kansas Online Learning Program for $6,000.

They approved selling unused projectors online.

Jesse Brunner was approved as a voting delegate to Kansas Association of School Boards annual convention Dec. 1 to 2 in Wichita.
