Staff writer

After being blown away, 48-0, by state-ranked Canton-Galva, in the last league game of the season last week, the Centre Cougars began district play with an easy 50-0 victory Friday against Hartford at home. The game ended at halftime.

Hartford was weak on both sides of the ball. Centre easily scored 28 points in the first quarter on touchdowns by quarterback Braxton Smith, Luke Hudson, and Jensen Riffel. Riffel and Lane Methvin scored conversion points.

The second quarter was a repeat of the first as Smith, Jacob Hird, and Hudson ran for touchdowns. Hird’s was a 52-yard fumble return. Riffel ran for four extra points.

The Cougars rushed for 154 yards compared to Hartford’s 34. Smith had five carries for 98 yards. Riffel had five carries for 56 yards and also had two punt returns for 65 yards. Aiden Svoboda had three carries for 33 yards.

Smith threw two completed passes for 45 yards — a 12-yard pass caught by Svoboda, and a 32-yard pass caught by Hudson.

The team will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Waverly.
