Assault charges pending against elderly man

Charges are pending against an elderly Hillsboro man who was allegedly assaulted a younger male relative at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Parkside Homes.

Police believe the 81-year-old suspect became angry at his 55-year-old relative, who is a resident at Parkside Homes, after having to deliver him some clothes, police chief Dan Kinning said.

No injuries were reported, but the victim alleged having been struck during an argument.

Kinning said a Parkside Homes staff member reported witnessing the elderly suspect holding the resident down in his wheelchair with his arm across his chest.

A trespassing complaint was also was filed.

“Notices of abuse in nursing homes usually come through Department of Children and Family services or other source,” Kinning said. “This was called to us direct because they didn’t want the person on the premises.”

UPDATE: Print editions incorrectly reported that the incident occurred across the street at Salem Home. Kinning confirmed on Thursday that he had misspoken when identifying the location.
