Burdick Labor Day plans shaping up

Mutton Bustin’ will be back for the 47th annual Burdick Labor Day Celebration Sept 1 and 2.

“For God and Country” will be the theme. Jack and Nancy Riggin will be honored as grand marshals of Monday’s parade.

A community church service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on the tennis court. Rolls and coffee, sponsored by Burdick Council of Clubs, will be served afterward at the fire station.

Morris County Relay for Life will celebrate its 25th year with a Sunday evening dinner and yard games. The relay will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by a luminary ceremony.

Homemade ice cream will be available Sunday evening and Monday afternoon at Hageberg’s garage.

Monday activities will begin with a two-mile fun run/walk with registration at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is requested but not required. Participants may register by calling Connie Johnson at (785) 466-6571.

Food and crafts vendors will be in the park at 10 a.m. Vendors may call Linda Peterson at (785) 983-4353 to reserve a spot.

Mutton Bustin’ competition will be at 10:30 a.m. for children less than 50 pounds. Registration fee is $5.

Burdick Hustlers 4-H Club will offer concessions all day and will serve lunch at 11:30 a.m. Live music will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A pie auction at noon will feature gooseberry, coconut crème, and rhubarb pies.

Turtle races will be at 1 p.m. on the tennis court. Participants must bring their own turtles. Participants in the 2 p.m. parade may register by calling Julie Koch at (785) 466-1277. Flint Hills Community Band will perform.

Kids’ pedal power competition will be at 3 p.m. on the tennis court. Adults will have a cornhole competition in the park.A glider bench made by Allen Hanson will be raffled as a fundraiser to help defray costs.
