Beards to be shorn for scholarship

Staff writer

No-Shave November has turned into Shave February thanks to a student-led fundraiser for the Jenessa J. Hlad Memorial Scholarship at Tabor College.

Tabor Student Senate will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to shave off beards of 10 Tabor men, including AFCA NAIA All-American football player Dylan Delk of Peabody, at the Feb. 13 Tabor basketball game.

Senate president Jeremy Davidson said he got the idea after hearing about former pro football player Brett Keisel doing a similar fundraiser for Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital.

“I asked guys if they were interested in doing that,” Davidson said. “The idea was well received.”

The fundraiser, led by Tabor College Senate, will sell raffle tickets for $2 each at upcoming Tabor basketball games, starting Jan. 27.

This past summer, Hlad, student in the athletic training program, died unexpectedly of septic infection while on a trip to Texas.

Davidson said that they hope to raise money for a scholarship to help future Tabor students in memory of Hlad.
