Artist to show silverware jewelry
Marion resident Jill Hodson will show her vintage silverware art at 9 a.m. March 21 at Marshall County Arts Cooperative, 201 S. 9th St., Marysville.
Hodson began creating jewelry and other wearable art from silverware after seeing old spoons stamped with humorous sayings.
“I first saw stamping letters on spoons with ‘snarky’ comments, so I figured I would try it,” she said. “I love getting laughs from people as they peruse my booth.”
When she looks at an old piece of silverware, its design and craftsmanship often guide her in what it will become.
“I love the fact that I can take something that has been hidden away in a closet or drawer and bring it back to life where no one would even imagine it might be 100 years old or older,” Hodson said.
Her work also leaves room for surprise.
“I like the time where I can jam out ’80s music in my shop and just let the metal and flames take on a life of its own,” she said. “It always surprises me by what happens.”
Breakfast casseroles, biscuits and gravy, and breakfast sweets will begin the morning, designed for people age 55 and older, at 8 a.m. A reception will follow from 10 a.m. to noon.
Although she now lives in Marion, Hodson was a 1985 graduate of Marysville High School.
