Area to observe Memorial Day

Burdick

Burdick area services will be at 9:45 a.m. at Diamond Springs Cemetery, 10:15 a.m. at Mission Valley Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Burdick United Methodist Church Cemetery, and 11 a.m. at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

There will be an honor guard, firing squad, and “Taps” at each cemetery with a speaker at Hebron.

Cedar Point, Florence

Services by the John McKay American Legion Post 287 will commence with an invocation and address by Donna Fink at 9:30 a.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Florence United Methodist Church pastor Kevin Seuser will speak at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. Terri Kent will place flowers. The John McKay American Legion Post firing squad will salute the dead, and “Taps” will be played.

In Cedar Point, singer-songwriter Bennie Holtsclaw will provide an invocation and address at 10 a.m. at Cedar Point Community Church.

Lincolnville

Services at Lincolnville Cemetery will begin at 10:30 a.m., led by Pastor Alan Stahlecker. Gilbert-Poppe American Legion Post 347 will provide military honors.

Peabody

Services will begin at 10 a.m. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. The American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars will advance the colors.

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will lower the flag to half staff.

Pastor James Pohlman will give the invocation and memorial address, followed by a gun salute by the honor guard and the playing of “Taps”.

The service will close with a benediction by Pohlman and colors raised to full staff by the Scouts. Everyone will sing, “America the Beautiful.”

Pilsen

Memorial service will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Pilsen Cemetery. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at Pilsen Community Center.

Marion

The Memorial Day ceremony will be 10 a.m. at Marion Cemetery.

Little flags will be placed at 4 p.m. Friday, and avenue flags will be placed at 10 a.m. Saturday. All flags will be removed at 4 p.m. Monday.

Ramona

Services at Lewis Cemetery west of Ramona will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday with flags placed by the Moffitt-Crandall Post of Tampa. Cemetery caretakers will mark the graves of veterans.

Junior Hanschu will lead the service, Pastor Clark Davis will give the opening and closing prayer, and Gary Fike will be the guest speaker.

After the service, a complimentary meal of fried chicken, bread, and drinks will be served at noon at Ramona City Park. Patrons are being asked to bring a covered dish and table service. Donations will be accepted.

Lost Springs

Services at Lost Springs Cemetery will be at 10 a.m. Dollye Novak will speak.

Hillsboro

Memorial Day services will commence at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park. The American Legion will provide an honor guard. The names of members who have died will be read.

Mike Zamrzla, Deputy State Director for Jerry Moran will be the speaker and “Taps” will be played by the Rev. John Werner.

After the service, a steak meal with all the fixings will be served at Legion headquarters for a cost of $15.
