Albert Reimer

Services for retired Hillsboro auto dealer Albert F. Reimer 90, who died Friday, will be Friday.

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. at Jost Funeral Home, followed by a private burial at Gnadenau Cemetery and a public celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m. at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church.

Born Oct. 3, 1926, in Meade County, he married Vada M. Wagler in 1947 and started Reimer Service Station in Meade County.

He established a used car and truck dealership in Dodge City in 1949 and moved in 1955 to Hillsboro, where he established Albert Reimer Motors. In 1966 he created Reimer Leasing Inc., and in 1968 he formed a van conversion company, Western Turtle Top Inc., specializing in vehicles for people with disabilities.

In 1971, he and his brother, John, expanded to McPherson and Newton under the name Reimer Ford Lincoln Mercury. They added Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and AMC franchises.

Albert served on the board of Salem Hospital and the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, was active in Kiwanis, was chairman of the trustees of Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church for 24 years, and served as president of Hillsboro Development Corporation.

In 1995, Carriage Hills residential development began under his leadership.

His parents, his wife, his brother, and a grandson preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Melvin Reimer of Hillsboro; Beverly Dick of Baldwin City; Charlene Ediger and Marcia Schroeder of Kansas City; Gerald Reimer of Wilsonville, Oregon; Janet Faul of Harvey, North Dakota, along with 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren

Memorials have been established with the Mennonite Brethren Foundation and Parkview Church.
