Police said ice was the cause of a two-car accident at 11:35 a.m. Nov. 28 at the corner of Ash and Orchard Sts.

Tommie Cantrell, 50, of Troy, Ohio, and Lisa Schafer, 50, of Durham, collided after Cantrell slid on ice through a stop sign in his 1996 Ford Ranger into the path of a 1997 Dodge Intrepid driven by Schafer.

Police said Schafer could not stop because of icy conditions. Both vehicles sustained minimal damage. No injuries were reported, but Cantrell was arrested for allegedly operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license or liability insurance.
