These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

340th Rd. east of Sunflower Rd.

While leaving an injury accident at 8:43 a.m. Feb. 25, a 2023 Marion County ambulance driven by Taylor L. Burrows, 24, Wichita, backed into a legally parked 1999 International fire truck owned by the City of Lincolnville, according to one of nine accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s department.

Damage to the driver’s side of the ambulance was characterized as minor. The fire truck was listed as undamaged.

Also in the ambulance were attendant Teagan M. Decker, 22, Abilene, and patient Lauren A. Dasenbrock, 38, Marion.

Deputy Landis Goodman’s report blames the accident on improper backing by Burrows, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

190th Rd. west of Quail Creek Rd.

Christopher L. Blackman, 55, Marion, hit a loose cow at 7:09 p.m. Feb. 26 with his 2012 Dodge Ram 1500.

The pickup sustained disabling damage to its front third, windshield, and undercarriage and was towed.

US-56/77/K-150 roundabout

Wendell L. Dirks, 85, Hillsboro, drove his northbound 2017 Jeep Ranger onto the median of the Marion roundabout at 7:23 p.m. Feb. 27 and ended up heading west in the eastbound lane of US-56.

The car, in which Raye E. Dirks, 83, of the same address was a passenger, sustained disabling damage to its undercarriage and a tire and was towed.

K-15 south of 150th Rd.

Rylie M. Hein, 16, Hillsboro, lost control of a 2010 GMC Terrain on a hail-slick road at 12:51 p.m. March 1, ran off the road to the right, and hit a speed limit sign.

The sport utility vehicle, owned by Matthew R. Hein of the same address, remained drivable with damage to a passenger side door.

Indigo Rd. north of 130th Rd.

Wyatt D. Plenert, 20, Hillsboro, lost control of his 2024 Ford Mustang during a hailstorm at 1:04 p.m. March 1, spun into the left ditch, and hit a tree.

The car sustained disabling damage to its hood and passenger side and was towed.

US-56/77 north of 210th Rd.

Haylee A. Hiedeman, 21, Leon, lost control of her 2019 Hyundai Elantra on a rain-slick road at 1:32 p.m. March 1, ran off the road to the right, and ended up in two feet of water in a ditch.

The car sustained disabling damage to its front and undercarriage and was towed.

Ethan R. Titus, 23, Kansas City, Missouri, was a passenger.

US-56/77 north of K-256

Kaitlin L. Parker, 17, White City, lost control of a 2009 Honda Accord on a hail-slick road at 1:49 p.m. March 1, ran off the road to the right, and hit an undescribed fixed object.

The car, owned by Courtney L. Parker of the same address, sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.

K-15 south of 190th Rd.

Ailing driver Roger M. Bartel, 76, rural Hillsboro, had to be freed from wreckage of his 1999 Cadillac Deville after he lost control on a wet road at 3:03 p.m. March 3, veered off the road to the right, then to the left, and then to the right again, driving into a ditch, becoming airborne, and striking three trees.

He was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. His car was listed as destroyed.

US-56/77 north of 250th Rd.

Elizabeth C. Schrag, 25, Manhattan, hit a deer at 7:27 a.m. March 5 with a 2022 Kia K5 owned by Steven J. Schrag, Hutchinson.

Adam J. Schrag, 26, of the same Manhattan address was a passenger in the car, which remained drivable with damage to its passenger side.

HILLSBORO

Washington St. south of E St

Mark S. Conner, 66, Hillsboro, backed his 2010 GMC Sierra out of his driveway at 3:35 p.m. Thursday and into a legally parked 2018 Ford Fusion across the street.

The Ford, owned by Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy, remained drivable with damage to its left rear. Conner’s GMC sustained damage characterized as less serious to its rear.

Assistant Chief Randy Brazil’s report blames the wreck on improper backing by Conner, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

MARION

Hudson St. west of Locust St.

Teresa R. Hartman, 43, Salina, backed her 2023 Chevrolet Traverse out of a driveway at 4:40 p.m. Friday and into a legally parked 2004 GMC Sierra across the street.

Damage to the left front of the pickup, owned by David W. Tharp of Peabody, was characterized as minor. Hartman’s Chevy remained drivable with damage characterized as more serious damage to its right rear.

Office Duane McCarty’s report blames the wreck on inattentive driving by Hartman, but no tickets were listed as being issued. (In some early editions, the chief who approved the report erronously was listed as its author.)
