SHERIFF

US-56 east of Mustang Rd.

A 2005 Buick LaCrosse driven by Frank Fahnholz Jr., 79, Marion, struck a deer at 10 p.m. June 28. Fahnholz and a passenger, Maria Fahnholz, 56, Marion, were not injured. The car was driven from the scene.

60th Rd. and Maple St., Peabody

Two people escaped injury after their pickup went off a curve and struck a tree at 12:30 a.m. June 24 at the south edge of Peabody.

A 2002 Ford F150 driven by Thomas Carter, 32, Sedgwick, was traveling west on 60th when Carter failed to negotiate a right curve onto Maple St. His truck left the road and struck a tree. Carter and passenger Bayleigh Clements, 21, Andale, were not injured. The truck was towed. Deputy Travis Wilson reported inattention and driving too fast for conditions contributed to the accident, but his report does not indicate a ticket was issued.

Timber and 10th Rds.

Two men died when the car they were in went off a gravel road and struck a power pole at 1:55 p.m. June 30.

Caleb Neal, 22, of Waxahachie, Texas, and Kameron Wiebe, 21, of Whitewater were northbound in Neal’s 2008 Honda Civic where the road changes from pavement to gravel at the Marion-Butler county line. Driver Neal lost control of the vehicle, which went left of center and hit a power pole in the west ditch. Deputy Michael Ottensmeier reported the car was destroyed and both men died at the scene. Driving too fast for conditions was cited as a factor in the accident.

US-56 at Nighthawk Rd.

Nathaniel Baldwin, 19, Marion, was cited for allegedly following too closely after his 2011 Chevy Malibu, owned by Laura Baldwin of the same address, rear-ended a 2002 Dodge Dakota owned and operated by Ty Klein, 42, Hillsboro, while Klein was trying to turn left off US-56 at 5:20 p.m. June 30.

Deputy Derek Calvert’s report said Baldwin had been distracted playing with his car’s radio and did not see that Klein had slowed to turn.

Although both drivers were listed as possibly being injured and their vehicles had to be towed, neither was listed as having been transported by ambulance.
