Plans were made at a Marion Chamber of Commerce meeting Monday night to continue popular Cash Day drawings each Wednesday. Also discussed was the possibility of closing earlier on Saturday evenings. No final plans were made, but a number of merchants would welcome 8 p.m. closing hours on Saturday during the winter.

Al Bernhardt, owner of Marion Hardware, has won an expense-paid trip to Louisville, Kentucky, and will leave by a train Sunday and return Thursday. The award is for outstanding sales of General Electric appliances.

The Marion school system is the owner of a former Army staff car, a 1951 Chevrolet in good condition that was bought “for a song” at surplus sale in Topeka last week. They will repaint it and put it to general school use.

A new welcoming service will start about the first of November. The service is being started by the 20th Century Club.

National Thespian Society of Marion High School initiated new officers Monday. Other members are Mary Lou Conyers, Warren Gardner, Maxine Hinz, John Minear, John Price, Wade Robertson, Mickey Seaton, Jon Thole, and Roland Vogel.
