Two full days of free entertainment and interesting exhibits are offered April 12 and 13 at the ever popular Marion “Spring Show.”

Everything is free and the show this year promises to be bigger than ever before due to being combined with the annual Marion County Hereford Breeders show.

Marion businessmen have spared no efforts in preparing a complete program of enjoyment for everyone.

The sale of 120 acres of county farm land and other miscellaneous items March 30 brought into the county coffers a total of $26,810.45. Proceeds from the land and other items sold go into a building fund to repair or rebuild a home for the county’s needy and aged.

The new American Legion Memorial Building on Marion’s Main Street is nearing completion. The first floor will be divided into two store spaces, the larger one, on the west, will be occupied by Van’s, the one on the east by Marion Electric. No definite commitment has been made on the three front rental office rooms on the second floor.

The senior class of Marion High School has chosen the play, “Our Miss Brooks,” to be their spring play. The 3-act comedy will be presented April 20. Laura Jane Bredemeier has the title role of Miss Brooks. Other leads parts are played by Edna Grimes, Don Ecker, Don Hayen, Phyllis Magathan, Janice Meisner, and Ethel Hiebert.

The Selective Service system has just handed down a new ruling where any college student under 26 may apply to take an examination to determine whether or not he may be considered for draft deferment as a student.

Musical groups from Marion High School made a fine showing March 30-31 in Emporia. Soloists Roberta Newsom, clarinet, John Childs, trombone, the band, mixed chorus, and boys quartet received first ratings and will go to the State competition on April 14.
