Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Thies have purchased the Conyers Grocery and Service station from Glenn “Shorty” Conyers and will take over the operation of the popular neighborhood business this coming Monday. The Thies family will move from their farm northeast of Marion and live in the apartment above the grocery which is located at Main and Cedar.

Marion County had a sixth infantile paralysis case reported Wednesday, Marvin Ratzlaff, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.D. Ratzlaff, living northeast of Hillsboro. Marvin is a popular Hillsboro High School student.

Sale of the Aulne Elevator by Menno Harder to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Darrow is announced this week, effective October 1. Under the new management, the name will be changed to Aulne Grain Company.

The student body of Marion High School picked cheerleaders for the coming season this week. Named to the first team were Laura Jane Bredemeier, Mary Hannaford, Doris Meredith, Max Herzet, and Jay Fisher. Chosen for the second team were Jeaneen Brose, Claire Hyde, Shirley Tiemeier, Marion Navrat, and Dean Williams.

An article appearing Sunday in the Kansas City Sunday reviewed a new book “The Adventures of a Tramp Printer.” One of the principal characters was Andrew J. Redmond, better known as “Muskogee Red” who probably lived more of his years in Marion than any other town in the country. He liked Marion and her people and settled down here for many years greeting countless friends and other journeymen printers as they came through.
