The city commission signed an order this week for the P-T Air Services of Hays to blanket the city with a thorough spraying to kill flies, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, and other insects.

Local insurance agent Bill Ward is pictured as he purchases one of the first boxes of popcorn sold by Everett Burkhead from his stand located on Third St. just south of the Farmers and Drovers National Bank.

Salina Brewers won top honors in the District Semi-pro Baseball Tournament that concluded here Wednesday evening when the Brewers defeated the Marion Merchants, who had beaten them the night before. Tournament individual player honors went to Marion players Olin Nincehelser, catcher; Herb Winter and E.M. Ireland, pitchers; Keith Mueller, first base; and Arnold Schwemmer, third base.

The swimming program “Romp Period” is being held at the Marion Country Club pool for five classes of 4- to 9-year-olds. Pat Brose, instructor, says the young Rompers are progressing nicely and many can already “dog paddle.” Life guards, watching that the youngsters don’t wander into deep water, are Jeaneen Brose, Tim Burkholder, Jan Crandall, Anne Burkholder, Doris Meredith, and Bob Reinke.
